Authoritarian dictators who embrace their hereditary powers are incapable of understanding why people dissent. They grow up in a bubble, unaware of how most people in their kingdom live. His move of ‘allowing’ women to drive was never a progressive decision. It was just as authoritarian as brutally murdering a journalist whose only crime was writing a dissenting opinions. 

Modern democracies should divest all business interests that support the repressive Saudi regime. Developing renewable energies will not only save the Earth from imminent disaster but also remove much of the bargaining power that Saudi Arabia has due to its oil wealth.
